Cycle up into the Welsh hills (the easy way) following
the River Teme to its source. Spectacular views across OffaÕs Dyke. Two
border market towns. Two rivers, Teme and Lugg. Traditional hill farming.
Your first nightÕs stop is in the Teme valley before you head over the
hills via Knighton to Presteigne, the old county town of Radnorshire.
Cycling is easy along the river valleys, with a hilly
bit on the second day. Total 53 miles/ 85km. Opportunities for longer
rides each day.
Day 1. Petchfield Farm to Knighton. 14 miles/ 22km.
Cycle to Knighton following the River Teme on an idyllic lane. Visit a
roman village for lunch, detour to visit Hopton Castle, Norman churches or
just picnic by the river & we guarantee you will see kingfishers. Stay
overnight in Knighton, a farming market town, situated on Offa's Dyke in a
glorious part of the Teme Valley
Day 2. Knighton to Presteigne. 24 miles/ 39km. Cross
Glyndwr's Way and Offa's Dyke to cycle deep into the Welsh hill country,
with magnificent views. Visit Knucklas Castle (reputedly the home of Queen
Guinevere) or if you are feeling energetic, detour to the ÒSpaceguard
ObservatoryÓ. Stay overnight in Presteigne, the historic county town of Old
Radnorshire, if you have time visit the impressive Judges Lodging Museum.
Day 3. Presteigne to Petchfield Farm. 15 miles/ 24km.
Return to Petchfield Farm, via the water meadows of the River Lugg and off
road through a nature reserve. Stop for lunch at the renowned Riverside
Inn or make a short detour to Wigmore Castle. Finishing any time in the afternoon,
back at Petchfield Farm.
