Black & White Farmhouse Cycle Tour

Follow the Rivers Lugg and Arrow to a lovely farmhouse in the Black & White Villages of Herefordshire. The historic half-timbered buildings of this area date back to the fifteenth century, and are surrounded by cider orchards and water meadows. Each day there are lots of places to stop & explore with easy cycling in between. Dunkerton's traditional cider mill is always a popular stop for all our customers!

The National Trust properties of Croft Castle and Berrington Hall are just a short cycle away. Both run lots of events for children. Your accommodation is unique - half-timbered, inglenook fires and even one which looks like a castle (ask for the turret room).

Easy cycling, following river valleys, mainly flat with a few short steep bits. Total 24 miles/ 39km, plus a choice of day rides. Opportunities for longer rides each day.

Day 1. Petchfield Farm to Kingsland. Choice of cycle routes 12-27 miles (21-44km). Two short sections of off road cycling along the river Lugg, the rest on quiet country lanes. Lots of water mills, picnic places & great views. You can even cycle into Wales to visit Presteigne, the historic county town of Old Radnorshire and its award winning Judges Lodging Museum.

Day 2. Explore the Black & White villages. Choice of routes 12-34 miles (19-55km). Easy cycling in the water meadows & valleys. The routes lead you through half-timbered villages, surrounded by hop fields and orchards. Cider tasting at Dunkerton's Farm in Pembridge. You can also visit the Grand National Trust property of Berrington Hall.

Day 3. Kingsland to Petchfield Farm. 12 miles/ 19km. On your last cycling day, remember to stop at Yarpole church for coffee, their bell tower is one of the oldest timber structures in the UK. Visit the National Trust's Croft Castle, picnic at the romantic ruins of Richards Castle. Finishing any time in the afternoon, back at Petchfield Farm.
