A walking holiday in the heart of Mortimer Forest, the traditional deer hunting park of the Mortimer's (lords of Wigmore and Ludlow castle). Outstanding views across to the Malvern's and down to the Black Mountains in Wales. The walk takes you to the lovely medieval town of Ludlow.

 

Walk Description. Easy walking on well signposted forest tracks, with some steep sections to viewpoints. Total 16 miles/ 26km.

 

Arrive at your accommodation anytime in the afternoon, youÕll have plenty of time to explore the National Trust properties of Croft Castle & Berrington Hall. Lots of really good places to eat, including The Stagg at Titley (michelin star pub). Staying at a farmhouse or Country Inn.

Day 1. Petchfield Farm to Ludlow. 8 miles/ 13km. Easy walking through a hidden valley to join the Mortimer Trail. The route follows the way marked trail through Mortimer Forest (brilliant, 360 degree views from High Vinnalls) and eventually down into the medieval town of Ludlow for your second night's stop. Stay at the Feathers Hotel (Hotel/Inn option) or unique local guesthouse in the historic centre of Ludlow.

 

Day 2. Ludlow to Petchfield Farm. 8 miles/ 13km. Pick up a picnic from LudlowÕs renowned market & delicatessens. Your day's walk leads you through Bringewood on easy tracks with fine views of Downton Castle and Downton Gorge. Down to the pretty village of Burrington & back across the meadows to Petchfield Farm, finishing any time in the afternoon.
