This walk is an ideal introduction to the Offa's Dyke trail, just right if you don’t want to walk the full 177 miles! Your holiday starts from "The town on the Dyke", Knighton. Follow the ditches and earthworks of Offa's dyke along the high ground to the remote village of Newcastle on Clun. The next day takes you up into the Clun Forest, eventually joining onto the Shropshire Way, and down to the border village of Clun. Total 20 miles.

Availability: May to September. Start days: Sunday to Thursday.

Day 1. Knighton to Newcastle on Clun

Leaving your car at Petchfield Farm, you are taken to Knighton's Offa’s Dyke Centre to start your walk. Today's walk starts with a steep ascent from the River Teme, but with wonderful views down the valley into England. Follow the high ground over some of the best preserved parts of the Dyke. Ending up at Newcastle on Clun, an idyllic village in the Clun forest (no trees!). Total 10 miles (16 km)

Day 2. Newcastle to Clun

Follow the dramatic Offa’s Dyke, great views across to Wales - on a clear day you can see Cader Idris on the Welsh coast. Joining the Shropshire Way, and eventually leading you down to Clun - a great place to celebrate your walk. Clun is a border village, dominated by its Castle and the River Clun with its 14th century packhorse bridge. Stay at the The White Horse Inn, great food and drink and its own brewery. Total 10 miles (16 km)

Day 3. Clun to Petchfield Farm

Your last day, and time for a leisurely explore of Clun . We arrange to pick you up at a time convenient to you and take you back to Petchfield Farm to collect your car and luggage.
The Crown Inn is a 16th/17th Century Drovers’ Inn at the centre of the remote village of Newcastle on Clun. It is a key ovenight spot on the Offa's Dyke in the heart of the Shropshire Hills ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. Comfortable rooms and home cooked food.

White Horse Inn. Friendly, local inn, specialising in excellent local food with its own small brewery. Rooms are above the pub, so can be noisy on Friday and Saturday night

Clun Farm. A sixteenth century farm, right in the middle of Clun. This 500 year old farmhouse has lots of beams, inglenook fires, cosy guest lounge & sunny garden. Quiet location.
