Day 1. Petchfield Farm to Rhayader

Start by following the River Teme to the border town of Knighton. This is where you pick up the Sustrans Regional Route 825. It’s signed all the way. Open moorland roads lead you to the River Irthon and Abbeycwmhir. One final hill (417 m) and then its downhill all the way to Rhayader. Total 49 miles (78 km)

 

Day 2. Rhayader & the Elan Valley Lakes

Cycle the Elan Valley dams and lakes. Fantastic new cycle path and sculpture trail for a picnic with great views. Visit the Red Kite feeding station at Gigrin Farm to watch these spectacular birds. Total 10 to 26 miles (16 - 42 km)

 

Day 3. Presteigne to Petchfield Farm

The first part of today's route follows the Welsh National Cycle Route, down the River Wye. After that, crossing a series of hills and open moorland to Kington and Presteigne. Take plenty of food and drink with you, but there are refreshment stops at Newbridge on Wye, Llandrindod Wells & Kington. finish any time in the afternoon, back at Petchfield Farm.  Total of (challenging) 65 miles (105 km).

You may like an extra night at Leintwardine or Ludlow to celebrate your acheivement.

Penralley House. Beautiful Georgian town house built about 1774. Penralley House has a striking façade of local granite, and a lovely garden with views to the Elan Valley and surrounding countryside. Excellent rooms and warm welcome.
